Senza Testa. Breve storia della decapitazione in rime e disegni (Headless. A brief history of beheading in rhymes and drawings) deals with the death penalty by beheading, one of the most symbolic of capital punishments, through the stories of 25 historical executed. Each of these characters is portrayed from the rhymes of Lucio Villani and the duotone drawings by Daniele Catalli. By superimposing the red filter attached to the book, with a very quick gesture the head disappears and the protagonist is beheaded, as quickly as at the time the sentence was carried out.

SHAKESPEARE’S TUNNEL BOOKS
papercut, silkscreen, letterpress
little theatres
Tunnel books, also known as peepshow or peephole, widely published in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, are books composed of a series of cut-outs bound together by means of two strips of folded paper.
A hole in the front page makes visible the succession of pages up to the bottom one, allowing to give the scenes a three-dimensional effect and thus obtaining a narrative effect that develops into a one single image.
In harmony with the need to illustrate a text conceived for the theater, is the choice of a book form with strong ties to the theater set-ups.
The front hole allows you to see the scenes-frames in this silent book: not all characters immediately offer themselves to the view; concealed by the wings, they are revealed as a result of movements exercised on the sheets by the reader-spectator.

DI FERITE STELLE
lasercut on paper, 2018
books, poetry
Based on the stories of deported people into the nazi concentration camps in World War II, the book is based on the concept of absence.
People, depicted in everyday moments, leave a trace of their presence that becomes an absence once it has been dug into the paper. Thus every shadow is transformed into a void that is both a mirror and a container for all other absences. The choice to use laser cutting and therefore to burn the paper is a reference to the burning of books on one side and the crematoria on the other.

LA BATAILLE DES GRENOUILLES ET DES SOURIS
print and papercut, 2018
mice and frogs, childrenbooks
Freely taken from the Homerish Batracomiomachia, the book tells of a dispute between a mouse and a frog over access to a pond. The frog then offers the mouse to visit his kingdom, climbing on his back. Unfortunately, a snake rises, leading to the drowning of the mouse. This episode is the pretext for a bloody war between the two communities.
“The very elaborate game of page cuts gives the scenes a cinematic depth of field and gives great strength to this effective denunciation of the absurdity of war.”
